Art lovers, this tour is for you!
From June 22 to September 1, 2019, accompanied by a guide, discover highlights from Le Monastère des Augustines’ collection which comprises paintings, goldsmithery pieces, sculptures, and craft creations. This rich collection of religious art offers a formidable overview of nearly 400 years of Quebec art history.
Made up of antique Quebec art treasures, the Hôtel-Dieu de Québec monastery collection includes pieces created by renown artists and craftspeople such as Frère Luc, Antoine Plamondon, Thomas Baillairgé, Médard Bourgeault, and François Renvoyzé. It also includes pieces by the Abbés Desjardins, saved during the French Revolution and offered to Quebec’s religious communities.
Certain pieces such as ex voto and devotional artworks were contributed by influential people and benefactors dating back to the New France era, such as the Duchesse d’Aiguillon, the Augustinian nuns of Dieppe, the Carmelites of Paris, and the Jesuits of Quebec, to name just a few.
