Le Monastère des augustines - Une aventure en soi

The Room From Within

Experience our new art exhibit-installation!

Le Monastère des Augustines invites you to visit its new exhibit-installation, The Room From Within. An outing that combines culture and contemporary art in the heart of Old Québec!

For the first time, Le Monastère des Augustines opens its doors to a contemporary artist and invites her to explore its collection.

Through this immersive installation, curated by Catherine-Eve Gadoury, artist Geneviève Lebel celebrates the Augustinian Sisters’ legacy of benevolence and compassion. She offers a fresh take on their tangible and intangible heritage. Through diversions and surprising object combinations, she illustrates a reflection on themes that are important to both her and the Augustinian Sisters: the heart, care, life transitions, and protecting one’s legacy.

About Geneviève Lebel

About Geneviève Lebel

An artist, teacher, and the coordinator of the visual arts program at the Cégep de Drummondville, Geneviève Lebel was selected after a call for proposals from Québec’s artists. Her interest in promoting heritage objects, highlighted in her previous exhibits, helped her stand out.

The exhibit she presents at Le Monastère des Augustines is the fruit of a reflection on the evocative power of the Sacred Heart, whose representation is ubiquitous in the Augustinian Sisters’ legacy. Through The Room From Within, Geneviève Lebel invites you to dive deep into the intimacy of a meeting within yourself.

About the Augustinian Sisters’ Hospital Mission

For nearly 400 years, the Augustinian Sisters devoted themselves body and soul, laying the foundations of the Quebec health system.

Despite the cloister’s barrier, these pioneers spread their values throughout society: compassion for suffering, respect for others, and the union of science and spirituality for healing. Their story is an example of humanity.

Today, Le Monastère des Augustines carries on this mission in alignment with the work of its founders.
