Letting go, a concept that often seems abstract, may help. In\nfact, it is one of the paths that leads to inner peace, an essential part of a\nwell-balanced existence. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-image\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/monastere.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/old\/2019\/09\/L\u00e2cher-prise-en-nature-1024x678.jpg\" alt=\"Une femme en nature\" class=\"wp-image-4847\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-heading\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Accept That You Can\u2019t Control Everything<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>The first step toward learning to let go is realizing that life is unpredictable, and that you often don\u2019t have control over it. Regardless of your current situation, try to identify which aspects are possible to control, and which you have no power over. Letting go means stopping to resist elements that are out of your control. Jon Kabat-Zinn defines letting go in his book <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.barnesandnoble.com\/w\/wherever-you-go-there-you-are-jon-kabat-zinn\/1102636030#\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (s\u2019ouvre dans un nouvel onglet)\">Wherever You Go, There You Are: Mindfulness Meditation in Everyday Life<\/a><\/em>: \u201cTo let go means to give up coercing, resisting, or struggling, in exchange for something more powerful and wholesome which comes out of allowing things to be as they are without getting caught up in your attraction to or rejection of them, in the intrinsic stickiness of wanting, of liking and disliking.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn1\">[1]<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>If you cannot\nchange your current situation, there is no point in resisting it. Rather, you\nshould welcome and learn to live with it, as it is part of your reality. It is counterproductive\nto accumulate frustration and stress due to elements which are out of your\ncontrol. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>With this in mind, it\u2019s important to first <a href=\"https:\/\/info.monastere.ca\/en\/how-to-identify-and-accept-our-emotions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (s\u2019ouvre dans un nouvel onglet)\">identify and accept your emotions<\/a>. Then, try filling out <a href=\"https:\/\/static1.squarespace.com\/static\/52754a90e4b0c0a3947f1dc3\/t\/5289a69ae4b089ab61d0c898\/1384752794296\/Daily_Record_Dysfunctional_Thoughts.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (s\u2019ouvre dans un nouvel onglet)\">Beck\u2019s self-evaluation form<\/a>, whose aim is to help you identify any automatic thoughts. As you become conscious of these thoughts and start to respond to them in a more rational way, you\u2019ll slowly start eliminating emotions that drain your energy, all the while getting closer to achieving inner peace.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-image\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/monastere.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/old\/2019\/08\/femme-heureuse-ext\u00e9rieur-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Femme heureuse pr\u00e8s de la mer\" class=\"wp-image-4734\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-heading\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Strive for Peace in Your Daily Life<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>Letting go can also be applied in many situations of daily life. For\nexample: do you find yourself regularly stuck in traffic? If so, do you often experience\nimpatience and anger?<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>This is a good\nopportunity to try tweaking your attitude in these types of situations. Take\nthe time to stop and think about things in a rational way. No matter what you\ndo, the situation will unfortunately stay the same: you\u2019ll still be stuck in\ntraffic. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-heading\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Here are a few\nsolutions which might help:<\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-list\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Take\ndeep breaths, and put on your favourite song. Or why not listen to a podcast on\na topic of your choice? Try to transform this moment, which you have little\ncontrol over, into a more pleasant one.<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-list\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Take\nadvantage of moments by yourself to practice gratitude. For example, you could\ntry naming three elements of your day for which you are grateful, or maybe think\nof things that brought you happiness this week. <\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-list\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Live\nin the moment by identifying what you see and what you\u2019re feeling. For example:\n<em>a man is walking on the sidewalk, a bird\nis flying, my feet are cold, there is tension in my neck<\/em>, etc<em>.<\/em> Continue this full consciousness\nexercise by naming at least 10 elements that are part of the current moment. <\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-list\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Practice <a href=\"https:\/\/info.monastere.ca\/en\/when-hearts-breathe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (s\u2019ouvre dans un nouvel onglet)\">cardiac coherence<\/a> to help you feel calmer. The idea is to inhale for five seconds, exhale for another five seconds, and then repeat the exercise for a duration of five minutes. There are apps you can download, like <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thermes-allevard.com\/content\/respirelax-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (s\u2019ouvre dans un nouvel onglet)\">RespiRelax<\/a><\/em> for example, to help you. By activating the sound on your device, you\u2019ll hear a notification when it\u2019s time to inhale or exhale, making it safe to use in the car. <\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>And if despite all\nyour efforts, you\u2019re still struggling to find inner peace while driving, there\nare alternative, sustainable modes of transportation you can try. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-heading\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Another Element of Daily Life Which Often Requires Letting Go Is Work:<\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-list\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Do you\nfeel responsible for your department\u2019s performance as a whole?<\/li><li>When\nan unpleasant situation arises in your work place, does it sometimes ruin your\nday? Does it cause you to come home with an added element of stress?<\/li><li>When a\ncoworker addresses you in an unpleasant tone, do you tend to think they are\nholding something against you? Do these thoughts stay with you for a long time?<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>Know that these automatic thoughts can be explained by the concept of <a href=\"https:\/\/psychcentral.com\/lib\/15-common-cognitive-distortions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (s\u2019ouvre dans un nouvel onglet)\">cognitive distortion<\/a>.\u00a0 Cognitive distortion is like a pair of glasses which causes you to interpret reality in a distorted or inaccurate way. To let go when faced with unpleasant situations and gradually eliminate these distortions, it\u2019s crucial to learn to <a href=\"https:\/\/healthypsych.com\/psychology-tools-identifying-cognitive-distortions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (s\u2019ouvre dans un nouvel onglet)\">identify them<\/a>. The Beck worksheet can then help you control your automatic thoughts: \u201cYou must act as the devil\u2019s advocate and formulate arguments that demonstrate the falseness of this belief\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn2\">[2]<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>You can also try a technique to help create a boundary between your work and personal life. The idea is to <a href=\"https:\/\/info.monastere.ca\/en\/what-is-meditation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (s\u2019ouvre dans un nouvel onglet)\">meditate<\/a> daily (even just for five minutes!) or do a <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/73sjOu0g58M\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (s\u2019ouvre dans un nouvel onglet)\">sun salutation<\/a> as soon as you get home. This will help you disconnect, and fully enjoy the present moment. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>As a complement to\nidentifying cognitive distortions, art therapy can also be a good way to\ndisconnect. In her book <em>Cr\u00e9er le meilleur\nde soi<\/em> (\u201cCreating your best self\u201d)<a href=\"#_ftn3\"><em><strong>[3]<\/strong><\/em><\/a>,\nManon Lavoie suggests a carefree creation exercise. Let your hands do their\nthing, and don\u2019t overthink!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-image\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/monastere.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/old\/2019\/09\/paix-au-quotidien-femme-coloriant-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Une femme qui dessine\" class=\"wp-image-4848\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-heading\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Free yourself from false obligations<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>Another way of working\ntoward inner peace is to stop hanging on to the idea that everything must be\ndone right away. Pay attention to how often you say \u201cI have to\u201d in your inner\nspeech. Do you have a strong tendency to use the expression in your personal or\nprofessional life?<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>Think about your\ndaily life. Does a series of responsibilities and obligations spring to mind? <strong><em>I\nhave to<\/em><\/strong><em> go grocery shopping for\nthe week, cook healthy and economical meals every night, clean the house, go to\nbed at a reasonable hour, reply to my friends so they know they\u2019re important to\nme, call my parents to see how they\u2019re doing\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>If these thoughts\nseem familiar, you might have trouble feeling relaxed on a daily basis, and may\neven experience anxiety, which is completely normal. To free yourself from the\nmental load created by your responsibilities and duties, start by asking yourself\nthe following questions:<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-list\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Are\nthese tasks really obligations? For example, do you absolutely have to go\ngrocery shopping for the week? Of course, eating is essential, but there are\nother possibilities, like buying fewer groceries at a time, or ordering food once\nin a while to give yourself more time to relax. <\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-list\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If the\ntasks really are vital, do they absolutely have to be done right away? For\nexample: when you come home and prepare a meal, do you really need to do the\ndishes right after finishing eating when you\u2019re tired and don\u2019t feel like it?\nConsider what will happen if you don\u2019t do the dishes right away. You\u2019ll realize\nthat the feeling of urgency is an illusion, because you can always do the\ndishes later. Why not take a little break and spend some time alone reading a\ngood book, or with your family playing with the kids?<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-heading\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Here are some challenges to try:<\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-list\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Pay\nattention to how many times you use \u201cI have to\u201d in your inner speech, and try\nto replace it with \u201c<strong>I would like to<\/strong>\u201d\n(ex.: <em>I have to go grocery shopping for\nthe week<\/em> becomes <strong><em>I would like to<\/em><\/strong><em> go grocery shopping for the week<\/em>). This exercise will help change\nyour perception of \u201cobligations\u201d, making the tasks lighter and more pleasant. <\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-list\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Let go\nof a daily task at least once a week. The more you eliminate the pressure you\nfeel due to various responsibilities and obligations, the calmer and more in\ncontrol of your existence you\u2019re likely to be. <\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-image\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/monastere.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/old\/2019\/09\/femme-en-r\u00e9flexion-1024x613.jpg\" alt=\"Une femme en r\u00e9flexion\" class=\"wp-image-4849\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">***<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>In other words,\nletting go means giving yourself peace of mind and being a little more detached\nin your everyday life.
