It would go on to become the hobby of many men and women from the 18th century onwards.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-image\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/monastere.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/old\/2021\/09\/desk-1869579_1920-1024x681.jpg\" alt=\"Le journal intime, une pratique qui fait du bien\" class=\"wp-image-7541\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>Journaling was then popularized under the form we know today: the simple act of putting your activities, observations and deepest feelings to paper.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>It has made quite the comeback during the pandemic<a>. <\/a>It\u2019s an activity that costs very little and has helped many face the uncertainties of these times.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-heading\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The benefits of journaling<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>Writing down your most secret thoughts, without judgment or taboo, has many advantages. The act of revelation is a route to self-discovery and a better understanding of yourself.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>The flow of ink can help you make sense of your thoughts and feelings, take a step back, <a href=\"https:\/\/info.monastere.ca\/en\/stress-levels\/\">channel your stress<\/a>, manage your mental and emotional overload and last but not least, remember happy moments.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-image\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/monastere.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/old\/2021\/09\/organizer-791939_1920-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Le journal intime, une pratique qui fait du bien\" class=\"wp-image-7547\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-heading\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Writing is healthy<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>\u201cWriting is good for you,\u201d says Matthew Lieberman, a UCLA psychology researcher who has studied the subject extensively.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>In a 2007 article, Lieberman found that writing your feelings down reduces activity in the amygdala, where fear, sadness and anger are formed.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>Renowned Texas University researcher and psychologist James Pennabaker would agree. His research found that writing about intense or difficult events or emotions for twenty minutes a day over a few days strengthens the immune system.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>A pioneer in the field, Pennabaker created expressive writing in the \u201980s. It\u2019s a therapy tool that involves writing your feelings in a journal. He demonstrated through studies that writing about your feelings helps you manage them. The practice has a positive impact on many aspects of <a href=\"https:\/\/info.monastere.ca\/en\/category\/holistic-health\/\">holistic health<\/a>, from how well you <a href=\"https:\/\/info.monastere.ca\/en\/the-importance-of-sleeping-on-health-and-well-being\/\">sleep<\/a>, to strengthening your immune system and even improving your relationships.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-heading\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Combining body and mind<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>Even if journaling can be done through several apps, good old pen and paper are still the best. Why? Simply because writing coordinates the body and mind in a singular purpose, not unlike <a href=\"https:\/\/info.monastere.ca\/en\/meditation-facts-and-myths\/\">meditation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-heading\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">I\u2019d like to try, how do I start?<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-image\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/monastere.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/old\/2021\/09\/adult-1850177_1920-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Le journal intime, une pratique qui fait du bien\" class=\"wp-image-7546\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-heading\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>1. Some simple ground rules:<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-list\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Let the words come. Write as sincerely as possible and don\u2019t worry about mistakes or crossing anything out;<\/li><li>Write quickly, to avoid censoring yourself;<\/li><li>Put your emotions and your feelings of despair, anxiety and gratitude to paper;<\/li><li>Don\u2019t hesitate to scribble in your journal if need be.<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-heading\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>2. Subject suggestions<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>You can broach any subject that crosses your mind, from the events of your day to your deepest existential questions. Feeling intimidated by the blank page? Here are some writing prompts:<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-list\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Imagine where you\u2019ll be in five years. What will you have become?<\/li><li>Write a letter to someone who makes you angry.<\/li><li>Talk about your feelings. What makes you sad?<\/li><li>Draw up a list of things that make you happy.<\/li><li>Describe yourself at five years old. <\/li><li>What do you absolutely want to do before you die?<\/li><li>What would you have liked to tell a loved one before they died?<\/li><li>Write a poem.<\/li><li>Write a few lines on what it was like the first time you met your beloved.<\/li><li>Reminisce about the happiest\u2014or saddest\u2014moment of your life.<\/li><li>Write a daily note about a happy moment from your day.<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-heading\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>3. Taking full advantage of a journal<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-list\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>For the first few weeks, you will surely write about a multitude of subjects, some important, and some less so. After a while, reread your entries to clean out the useless bits.<\/li><li>You can now self-analyze your journal. What did you retain? What thoughts were sparked by your reading? To your pens!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-heading\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A snapshot of history<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>In similar spirit to a journal, the Annals of the Augustinian Sisters are a chronicle of events related to the community.
