So why deprive yourself?<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-image\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/monastere.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/old\/2019\/10\/art-peinture-bien-\u00eatre-canevas-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5064\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-heading\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Creation is key<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>Every day, humans call on their creativity\nto overcome difficulties both big and small, and find a way to adapt to their\nenvironment. Creativity fosters innovation and helps you transform obstacles\ninto positive opportunities. However, on rarer occasions, creativity manifests\nitself in a more spontaneous and liberated way for the simple emotional\npleasure it conjures. Many individuals underestimate their creativity, and have\na negative perception of their own artistic ability. But according to art\ntherapist Pat B. Allen, creativity is within each of us, waiting to be unleashed.\n<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>From a biological standpoint, creativity\ncalls on the brain\u2019s right hemisphere, which is linked to imagination,\nintuition, images, emotions, and spatiotemporal abilities. As for your left\nbrain, it controls analytical functions such as linear thinking and logic. In a\nWestern society such as ours where everything is about performance, we don\u2019t\ntend to solicit the right side of our brain as often. Creating helps us\nincrease our brain activity to fully honour and express our humanity. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-image\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/monastere.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/old\/2019\/10\/art-cr\u00e9er-peinture-canevas-bien-\u00eatre-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5065\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-heading\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The benefits of art appreciation<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>Art history is the field that first allowed\nme to experience the benefits of art; by observing pieces of art for several\nminutes, I learned to bring its colours, shapes, and characters to life under\nmy gaze. Having worked at a Quebec museum institution, I also became a\nprivileged witness to visitors\u2019 emotions and experiences. I often noticed\npeople being very immersed in a piece that struck a chord with them, trying to\nunderstand its meaning, and weaving their interpretations together with their personal\nexperience.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>A study published in 2011 by neurobiologist\nand professor Semir Zeki puts words on this type of experience<a href=\"#_ftn1\">[1]<\/a>. The researcher took an interest in volunteers\u2019 brain activity as\nthey contemplated artwork they considered valuable. In doing so, Zeki drew\nsimilarities between the psychological effects of being in love and those\nbrought on by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/culture\/art\/8501024\/Viewing-art-gives-same-pleasure-as-being-in-love.html\">viewing\nart<\/a>. In other words, the brain, and more specifically the\norbitofrontal cortex, reacts the same way and releases dopamine no matter\nwhether you\u2019re in love or staring at a work of art. Fascinating, isn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-heading\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why art is\nso important<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>Listing all the benefits of the artistic\nexperience would be tedious, not to mention that they are very specific to each\nperson. However, it is undeniable that creativity offers an avenue for\ncommunicating differently. Art allows you to express yourself, externalize your\nemotions, improve your self-esteem, stimulate your curiosity, look inward,\nboost your concentration, reduce feelings of stress, and break your isolation,\nto name just a few benefits. Art can be enjoyed by any curious individual\nregardless of their age, physical or mental condition, and artistic experience.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-image\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/monastere.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/old\/2019\/09\/rendez-vous-de-cr\u00e9ation.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4837\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-heading\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>An\nopportunity to unleash your creativity<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph\" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>Our Creative Gatherings (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/monastere.ca\/fr\/programmation\/activite\/rendez-vous-de-creation-449\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Les Rendez-vous de cr\u00e9ation (s\u2019ouvre dans un nouvel onglet)\">Les Rendez-vous de cr\u00e9ation<\/a><\/em>), which take place on the first Sunday of every month, allow you to reconnect with yourself while exploring your inner essence through creativity. As every person is unique, the activity consists of an open workshop where you can respect your own creative rhythm and express yourself through the medium of your choice. The workshop takes place in silence with the goal of helping people look inward while honouring an Augustinian Sisters tradition. For this purpose, a theme in line with the religious community\u2019s values is suggested to promote thought and provide creative direction if desired. Each workshop is offered in a warm, non-judgmental atmosphere to foster, reconnect with, or explore your creativity.
