Recently, Le Monast\u00e8re\ndes Augustines Collection team made a curious discovery in the drawer of a\npiece of furniture at the H\u00f4pital g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de Qu\u00e9bec monastery. For over a\ncentury, a rolled note held in a glass tube sealed with a cork accompanied a plaster\nsculpture of the Guardian Angel installed on August 25, 1859 in an architectural\nniche of the deposit wing.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

The note contains information about the date of the statue\u2019s\ninstallation as well as the signatures of the members of the council of the H\u00f4pital\ng\u00e9n\u00e9ral de Qu\u00e9bec monastery. It also includes this intercessional prayer:\n“Guardian Angel, guard this establishment, and pray for its inhabitants,\nbe their faithful guide.[1]<\/a>”\n<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

This\nstatue and the glass tube were removed from the niche in 1977, during the the\nhospital building repairs. It is\ntherefore likely that the glass tube was stored in a piece of furniture and\nforgotten by the person who stored it.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

This recent discovery is very useful for\nthe collections and archives team: the note helps us learn more about why the\nstatue was installed. The note will\nultimately be removed from its container and stored in a manner to helps\nconservation.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n
